Autumn Season Color Analysis
Autumn Season Color Analysis
We are back at it again with part three of our color analysis series. So far we have gone through the shades that look best on our cool-toned fashionistas Now it’s time to show our warmer friends some love. Let’s start with the basics of color analysis.
The first thing to determine is whether you have warm or cool undertones in your skin. After that, you must determine whether your skin prefers darker or lighter shades. Finally, you must decide if your skin prefers muted or saturated colors. This article will discuss Autumn skin tones.
Autumns overall have warm skin tones with hair colors that range from a warm, dark brown to strawberry blonde or golden blonde. There is usually a large amount of contrast between your hair and skin, and the best colors for those who fall under the autumn color palette should wear shades that are muted and warm to match their skin, hair, and eye color.
Like each season, autumn can be broken down into three subsets: warm autumn, deep autumn, and soft autumn. Warm autumns have golden tones in their overall appearance. The hair is usually chestnut, medium golden brown, or auburn. The eyes can be light to medium brown, olive, or dark hazel. And the skin is bronzed, ivory, or a warm beige. A few warm autumns may even have freckles. Your complexion favors warm and muted shades like those that can be found in a forest during autumn. Rich oranges and burnt reds are examples of these colors.
Deep autumns have slightly less warmth in their complexion. The skin can sometimes appear olive rather than fully bronzed. The hair color extends all the way to black-brown and rarely a lighter brown. The eyes mimic the hair and skin by being as deep as black-brown, dark hazel, dark green, and, occasionally, a very deep shade of blue. The deep autumn palette contains the darkest shades. The colors are rich because of the yellow hues present, but the shades themselves are not bright.
Lastly, there is soft autumn. As the name suggests, everything about the colors in your appearance is soft while remaining warm. The eyes are typically light brown with some blue or green mixed in. The hair goes no deeper than medium brown but extends as light as a strawberry blonde. Red highlights are a good indication you may be a soft autumn. Your color palette reflects the soft nature of your appearance. The best shades for you are between warm and cool like olive green and desaturated reds and pinks.
Here are a few celebrity examples:
Natalie Portman in this stunning burgundy gown is rocking this color. The warm, muted, rich red complements the warmth in her skin and hair, rather than competing with it. Her skin looks vibrant, golden, and healthy.
However, this cool, deep purple does not suit her warm features. Yes, the dress has depth in color, but it is far too cool for her. Rather than bring out the bronze in her skin, the color looks heavy on her and makes her appear grey and pale. An alternative to a crayon purple color for those in the autumn season is plum. It maintains the depth of this purple but adds in warmth that will complement your skin.
Jennifer Lopez is an autumn, which is clear in this gathered olive green dress. This shade of green is muted instead of bright. It flatters the natural warmth in her skin well, making her appear as if she is glowing from the inside out.
This blush pink dress, however, does not suit her. The color is far too pale and cool for her skin. Rather than complementing the warmth present in her skin, it makes her skin look slightly orange. Instead of pale pink, reach for coral or very warm, muted peach shades.
Barbie Pink is not for everyone, especially an autumn. The color’s brightness and coolness do not complement the natural undertones in an autumn’s skin. Again, the alternative to this type of pink would be coral, a shade that is more muted and warm.
Remember, being an autumn doesn’t mean you can’t ever wear cool colors. It simply means it’s best to choose colors that are warmer and muted. And if you love wearing baby blues and blush pink, then implement the color in your shoes, pants, or bracelets. Wearing it near your face will work against your natural autumn beauty.
If you think you’re an autumn, try out colors that remind you of that season. The best inspiration for your color palette comes from the imagery depicted in the season itself during the day and at night.
