Working on any holiday is a bummer really but many think of Valentine’s Day as the ultimate fail, like ugh why 😩. Well it’s an emotionally charged day, at work nonetheless, and people are generally awkward when it comes to their emotions. It’s probably even more awkward around coworkers since you’re in a professional setting. Some might act as if there’s no such thing as Valentine’s Day, like it doesn’t even exist. For others, working that day sucks mostly because they have plans, and those plans usually require some preparation.
Now yes February 14th is indeed a special day to celebrate love buttttttt there are different types of love, such as affection and appreciation. In this day and age (and many studies reveal) employee moral is highest when they feel appreciated and respected for their hard work. So make the best of this day, you have to be there anyway. And let’s keep it real, coworkers and colleagues are among the people you spend the most time with so use this holiday as a way to offer your heartfelt thanks and appreciation for them. A small gesture like bringing Valentine's Day goodies for the whole office can go a long way towards improving engagement and professional relationships. Sidenote: while it may be hard imagine, some people actually do love their job!
